The William and Mary men's golf team began play at the Joe Agee Invitational Monday, hosting 10 other teams under ideal conditions at The Williamsburg Club. The Tribe finished the day's two rounds in third place (577, +9), five strokes behind co-leaders Radford and High Point. Radford's Callum Tarren shot 64-70 and High Point's Chase Wilson paired rounds of 67-67 to tie for the individual lead at eight-under on the 6,837 yard, par-71 course.
W&M was led Monday by senior Jeremy Wells (Hopewell, Va.), who shot 69-72 to stand in fourth place at one-under overall. Sophomore Alex Hicks (Cape May Court House, N.J.) followed his morning 70 (-1) with a 73 in the afternoon to enter the clubhouse tied for fifth, two strokes behind Wells. Juniors Tanner Taddeo (Hendersonville, Tenn.) and Michael Bekken (Blacksburg, Va.) are tied in a crowd at 12th place at 147 (+5). Taddeo cut five strokes between rounds to shoot an even-par 71 in the afternoon, while Bekken combined rounds of 72-75. Junior Nick Schafer (Arlington, Va.) rounded out the scoring team in a tie for 33rd, shooting 75-78.
W&M also had four players competing as individuals in the tournament. Sophomore Charlie Kern (Seattle, Wash.) shot 73 in the morning and came back with 77 in the afternoon, tying for 25th alongside classmate Joey Shroyer (Victoria, Minn.). For his part, Shroyer paired two rounds of 75 on the day. Junior Patrick Leisure (Charlottesville, Va.) improved one stroke between rounds, shooting 78-77 to tie for 37th, and senior Charles Godfrey (Tampa, Fla.) is tied for 46th after matching rounds of 80.
