W&M Men's Golf Tied for 10th After First Day at ODU/OBX Intercollegiate

The William and Mary men's golf team shot 295 (+7) on a perfect Sunday in the Outer Banks, tying for 10th place out of 18 teams after the first round of the Old Dominion/Outer Banks Intercollegiate.  No. 28 Georgia leads the team race at 17-under (271), ten strokes ahead of No. 37 Liberty and the rest of the field.  The Bulldogs also have the top two individuals after the first round, in T.J. Mitchell's 64 (-8) and Keith Mitchell's 65 (-7).

Leading the way for the Tribe was sophomore Patrick Leisure (Charlottesville, Va.), who shot an even-par 72 to stand tied for 15th.  Classmate Nick Schafer (Arlington, Va.) and junior Jeremy Wells (Hopewell, Va.) each turned in scorecards of 73, and are tied at 27th.  Freshman Alex Hicks (Cape May Court House, N.J.) shot 77 (+5) on the day, and sophomore Michael Bekken (Blacksburg, Va.) rounded out the team effort with a score of 79 (+7).

The tournament continues this week, with rounds on both Monday and Tuesday.
