Athens, Ga. - Despite being selected as one of 64 competitors nationally, William and Mary men's tennis junior Jamie Whiteford was forced to withdraw from the NCAA Singles Championships due to injury. The event is slated to begin on Wednesday, May 23, hosted by the University of Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.

After a standout fall campaign, Whiteford battled injury throughout the spring campaign, but still maintained a national ranking of No. 65 as of April 30. As the highest ranking player in the CAA, Whiteford earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Championship field. The Tribe junior became the first W&M player to win the ITA Atlantic Region Singles Championship, knocking off three nationally ranked foes in the process. Included in his run to the title was a straight sets win over current No. 4-ranked Jarmere Jenkins of Virginia in the championship match. Whiteford was ranked as high as No. 34 nationally this season and garnered First-Team All-CAA honors in singles for the second time in his career. One of the eight alternates announced when the field was released will take Whiteford's spot in the event.
