The William and Mary volleyball team will host UNCW Saturday at 7 p.m., but on a larger scale the fight will not be to defeat the Seahawks, but to help "Spike Out" breast cancer. In conjunction with Beyond Boobs and Breast Cancer Awreness Month, the Tribe will be raffling off several prizes at the intermission, with proceeds from the sale of the raffle tickets being donated to help fund cancer research and treatment.

Spike Out Breast Cancer
To help support Beyond Boobs, a Williamsburg-area non-profit dedicated to breast cancer awareness, the Tribe volleyball team sold raffle tickets at $2 each for a number of great prizes that will be raffled off between the second and third sets. The prizes include:
- A Beyond Boobs gift basket
- A complimentary stay at the Crowne Plaza of Williamsburg that includes one night, and two breakfasts
- Gift Cards to a number of area restaurants and businesses, including Greene Leafe, Paul's Deli, Brickhouse Tavern, Sal's Ristorante, Anna's Brickhouse Oven, Ocean's and Ale, Buggy Bathe, and Elements Massage and Bodywork
Scouting the Tribe
William and Mary defeated Georgia State 3-1 on Sunday in its last match, improving to 11-9 overall and 3-3 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Tribe has a very balanced offense, with eight players averaging north of 2.02 points per set, and five with an attack percentage of .200 or greater. Leading the way is redshirt-sophomore Paulette Grand Pre (Laguna Beach, Calif.), with an average of 2.39 kills and 2.76 points per set, while on defense the Tribe is being led b the duo of senior Shaylin O'Connell (Leesburg, Va.), at 0.96 blocks per set, and redshirt-sophomore Devin Andrews-Lyssy (Santa Rosa, Calif.), with 3.11 digs per set.
Scouting the Seahawks
UNCW is 7-14 on the year, and 0-6 in the CAA after falling to Georgia State 3-2 last weekend. The Seahawks are led on offense by Morgan Kline, with 2.81 kills per set, while on defense McKenzie Keightley is averaging 1.20 blocks per set.
The Series
W&M is 48-3 all-time against UNCW, including a 3-0 win earlier this season in Wilmington. The Seahawks won both meetings last season, including 3-1 in Williamsburg.
News and Notes
- The last time these two teams met, Tribe head coach Melissa Aldrich Shelton '91 achieved a significant career milestone. The College's 3-0 victory in Wilmington was the 300th of her career, which now includes 302 victories and counting. Of Shelton's total, 67 have come at the helm of her alma mater in 4+ seasons.
- W&M collected season-highs in kills, assists, and digs in the 3-1 win at Georgia State on Sunday. The Tribe hit .241 as a team in the match, the eighth time so far this season that W&M has hit as well or better. That is a marked improvement over the past two years, which had just seven matches of .241 or better total.
- Freshman Dessi Koleva averaged more than three kills per set against Hofstra and Northeastern to claim CAA Rookie of the Week honors for the third time in four weeks. She was also honored as the Division I Player of the Week by the ECAC, a regional organization of more than 300 universities across all three NCAA Divisions.
- Freshman Carolyn Albright was also selected as the CAA Rookie of the Week, back on Sept. 3, starting a string of three straight weeks and four of five in which the league's best newcomer has worn the Green and Gold. Overall, the Tribe has won four of the eight Rookie of the Week honors given out this season.
- With the in-season tournament schedule now complete, the College counted a total of eight all-tournament selections this season. Senior Shaylin O'Connell was named to three of the four all-tournament teams, including both of W&M's home events as well as the Duke Invitational. Paulette Grand Pre and Manon Murray each had two nods, with Grand Pre earning honors at the Tribe Invitational and the UNH Invitational, while Murray was one of the six-best players at both UNH and the Colonial Challenge. Freshman Dessi Koleva was only named to one all-tournament team, the Colonial Challenge, but her terrific play lifted her to the MVP award.
