WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William and Mary baseball head coach Jamie Pinzino has announced the hiring of Brian Casey to the position of assistant coach.  A native of Milford, Mass., Casey joins the College's staff after serving as an assistant at Tufts University during the past five seasons.

Casey will serve as the Tribe's pitching coach, as he inherits a staff that led the CAA last season with a team ERA of 3.01.

During his time at Tufts, Casey served as the recruiting coordinator, strength and conditioning coordinator and scouting director.  His primary responsibilities on the diamond included the development of pitchers and hitters.  In the Jumbo's daily practice plan, Casey orchestrated a video analysis, helping improve mechanics and hitting production.  He also served as the Jumbos junior varsity coach, overseeing every aspect of the program.

As Tufts' recruiting coordinator, Casey commanded the Jumbos Winter Prospect Camp, which annually draws over 100 prospects from across the country.  Serving as the strength and conditioning coordinator, Casey implemented in-season and off-season workouts.

Off the field, Casey was the liaison between the program and the top collegiate summer baseball leagues, placing Jumbos in the Cape Cod and Cal Ripken off-season leagues.  He also spearheaded fundraising functions, organizing and implementing golf tournaments, the annual alumni game, and holiday gatherings.

Collegiately, Casey was a four-year member of Tufts' baseball team (2004-2007). A team captain in 2007, Casey earned second-team All New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) honors.  He also garnered second-team All-New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) accolades in 2007.  Casey was the recipient of the Tufts Jit Ricker award, which is given to the individual who exemplifies dedication, loyalty, and competitive desire.  Casey was a member of the 2005 Jumbo team that made the NESCAC playoffs.

Since 2008, Casey has been a member of the Watertown Reds of the Intercity League, which is an amateur baseball team in the Boston, Mass., area.  While with the Reds, Casey has been an all-star selection on multiple occasions and earned Intercity League co-pitcher of the year distinctions in 2010 and 2011.

Casey graduated from Tufts in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in political science.  In 2010, he earned a master's degree in educational studies from Tufts.
