WILLIAMSBURG, VA - Former William and Mary RHP Matt Davenport has been selected to 2012 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings First-Team All-East Region.  The accolade is the second All-East distinction for Davenport, who garnered region honors in 2010.  In total, Davenport is just the fourth W&M pitcher to earn All-East accolades, as he joins Logan Billbrough (2011), Bill Bray (2004) and John Volpi (1983 and 1984) with the distinction.

In 2012, Davenport capped-off an impressive season as he was named the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year, while earning first-team all-league accolades for his efforts.  For the year, Davenport compiled a record of 7-5 to go along with an ERA of 1.73, which is a new single-season standard for any Green and Gold pitcher.  For the season, Davenport led the CAA in ERA, opposition batting average (.210), innings pitched (109.1) and strikeouts (90).

His final season was highlighted by superb performances at James Madison (March 16) and at Hofstra (May 18).  The former Nansemond-Suffolk standout tossed a complete-game, two-hit shutout in the College's, 6-0, victory over the Dukes, while he posted a career-high 12 strikeouts as he went the distance in the, 11-0, win versus the Pride, allowing no runs on just five hits.  For those ventures, Davenport was rewarded with CAA Pitcher of the Week honors.

On June 6, the Detroit Tigers in 34th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball first-year player draft selected Davenport, as he became the 21st player selected from the College since, 1999.

Davenport finishes an outstanding career ranking second all-time in the W&M record books with a career ERA of 3.26, while standing at third with 23-career victories.
