RICHMOND, Va. - William and Mary men’s basketball freshman Omar Prewitt was named the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season, the league announced on Monday. Prewitt garnered the distinction following a game-high 20 points in only 20 minutes to lead the Tribe to a 94-60 win over Goucher on Dec. 20.
The Mount Sterling, Ky., native also earned league award on Nov. 18, Nov. 25 and Dec. 2. Against Goucher, he was 8-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free throw line in registering his third 20-point game of the season. Prewitt added seven rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot in the victory over the Gophers.
For the season, Prewitt ranks among the CAA leads in all three shooting percentages. He is third in the league in both 3-point (.404) and free throw percentage (.796) and sixth in field goal percentage (.489). Prewitt is ninth in scoring at 15.0 points per game, while also ranking seventh in steals (1.2) and 3-pointers per game (1.9), 15th in blocked shots (0.7) and 20th in rebounding (5.0). He leads all CAA freshmen in scoring, rebounding, steals and 3-pointers made as well as free throw, 3-point and field goal percentage.
Winner in five of its last six games, the Tribe returns to action following the Christmas holiday when it travels to Charleston, W.Va., to face the West Virginia Mountaineers on Sunday, Dec. 29. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m. from the Charleston Civic Center, and the game will be televised on ROOT Sports out of Pittsburgh.
