WILLIAMSBURG – William and Mary Athletics Director Terry Driscoll announced Tuesday (March 19) that head women’s basketball coach Debbie Taylor will not have her contract renewed for the 2013-14 season.  The Tribe finished this past season with an overall record of 8-22, including a 6-12 mark in Colonial Athletic Association play.
While no timetable has been established to name a successor, Driscoll will assemble a search committee and begin a national search immediately.
"I want to thank Debbie Taylor for all her contributions to the program for the past 14 seasons,” Driscoll said. “She was always a first-class representative of her program and the College of William and Mary. I sincerely wish her well as she explores other career opportunities."
A 1986 graduate of William and Mary, Taylor departs as the program’s all-time wins leader with a 146-265 (.355) overall record and a 73-175 (.294) mark in the CAA.  Her 79 CAA wins, including the league tournament, ranks ninth in conference history. Taylor was named the 2006 CAA Coach of the Year after leading the Tribe to a 15-13 mark, including a fifth-place showing in the CAA at 11-7.
Twice during her tenure Tribe players took home the CAA’s prestigious Dean Ehlers Leadership Award given to the CAA student-athlete who "embodies the highest standards of leadership, integrity and sportsmanship in conjunction with her academic athletic achievement." Taylor-coached teams succeeded in the classroom as well and earned NCAA APR recognition three times since the program began in 2003-04, the highest total among Division I schools in the state of Virginia, with a perfect score of 1,000.
