WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – First-year head women’s basketball coach Ed Swanson released the William and Mary women’s basketball schedule on Monday afternoon. The 28-game slate is highlighted with 10 possible opponents that participated in postseason play last year, two regular season tournaments, and 13-home games.
2013-14 Complete Schedule
Swanson’s tenure as William and Mary’s head coach begins with a two-game road swing. The Tribe opens the regular season at Longwood on Monday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. The Green and Gold then trek to Greenville, N.C. to face Women’s National Invitational Tournament participant East Carolina on Friday, November 15.
The home portion of the women’s basketball schedule starts on Tuesday, November 19 when the Tribe welcomes High Point to Kaplan Arena. Tipoff for the home opener is set for 7 p.m.
W&M returns to the road for the rest of the month of November, starting with a trip to Winthrop on Nov. 23. The Tribe then plays the first of two regular season tournaments with the Maine Thanksgiving Tournament. The tournament opener will be played against NCAA Tournament qualifier Green Bay on Nov. 29. Depending on the result, the Tribe will either face Massachusetts or Maine on Nov. 30.
The College returns to Williamsburg for its longest home stand of the season on Thursday, Dec. 5. W&M opens the three-game home stand against La Salle, before hosting Radford (Dec. 18), and WNIT participant Old Dominion (Dec. 21). The ODU game will be apart of the annual Optima Health Challenge, with the game starting at 2 p.m.
William and Mary’s final regular season tournament will be the Cyclone Challenge hosted by Iowa State in Ames, Iowa. The Green and Gold will square off against Saint Louis (Dec. 28) and depending on result will play either NCAA Tournament team Iowa State or Holy Cross on Dec. 29.
The final non-conference game will be played at home in Kaplan Arena, when W&M plays host to North Carolina A&T, who went to the WNIT a season ago, on Jan. 3. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
Colonial Athletic Association play for the Tribe kicks off at home against back-to-back CAA champion and Sweet 16 participant Delaware on Thursday, January 9. William and Mary will host all eight CAA opponents at Kaplan Arena this season including: WNIT champ Drexel (Jan. 16), Towson (Jan 26), Women’s Basketball Invitational participant College of Charleston (Feb. 2), WNIT qualifier James Madison (Feb. 4), UNC Wilmington (Feb. 16), Northeastern (Feb. 27), and Hofstra. (March 5).
W&M also travels to all eight CAA schools this year. The Tribe’s CAA road schedule consists of: College of Charleston (Jan. 12), UNC Wilmington (Jan. 23), Drexel (Jan. 30), Hofstra (Feb. 9), Northeastern (Feb. 13), Towson (Feb. 20), Delaware (Feb. 23), and James Madison on March 2.
For the fourth consecutive season, the Showplace Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md. will host the CAA Women’s Basketball Championship. The championships will be held on March 13-16.
William and Mary returns eight letter-winners under the guidance of first-year head coach. Swanson, who has amassed more than 400 victories in his career, spent the previous 23 seasons at Sacred Heart.
