USA Field Hockey is excited to announce Esty Byrd as the Club Athlete of the Month for July!

Here is her story, as told by two of her coaches:
From Charlotte, NC, Esty Byrd is the club athlete everyone wants on their team!  Field Hockey is her life and she will take any chance she gets to be on the field or even conditioning/weight training to become the best athlete she can.  Esty has played on the Charlotte Ambush team for four years and has been the backbone to the team's success.  Everyday she inspires her teammates to be better simply by her love and dedication to the sport.  As her coach, I hear her teammates say “Wow, she is amazing!” on a regular basis when she simply hits the ball.  Esty can be found taking shots on cage up to 2 hours before practice starts and in the gym at 6:00am before school most days!

Esty will attend William and Mary in the Fall of 2012, but she is leaving a trail of club and high school accolades behind her including NFHCA South Region All-Region, NSCA All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year, NFC Selectee, 2009 State Champion, 2011 Most Valuable Defensive Player of the Year, Two time All-State, Region 8 U19 Regional Club Championship, Disney 2012 Gold Medal winner, AAU Junior Olympics Gold Medal winner 2010. And in addition to all of her field hockey work, Esty is an International Baccalaureate student, one of the hardest high school degrees in our area!  Esty is looking forward to her last hooray as a club member at the 2012 National Club Championships in July!

Esty is a driven young lady and has had the goal of playing college field hockey since she was in middle school.  With this goal in mind she has worked extremely hard in the weight room and on the track to help make her the best field hockey player she can be.  Her dedication with her high school team and club team is very apparent as I always get a “rundown” of her club games prior to our Monday morning 6:30am workouts.  She was especially proud of her play at the 2011 National Futures Championship at Disney in which her team won a Gold medal.  Her goal of playing college field hockey was met as she will be continuing her academic and athletic career at William and Mary College, in Williamsburg, Virginia.  I am extremely proud of what Esty has accomplished and it has been a pleasure to coach her.

Congratulations Esty and good luck at William and Mary!
