William and Mary freshman Pip Saunders (Mittagong, NSW) was selected as the Field Hockey Rookie of the Week Tuesday by the Colonial Athletic Association, following her strong weekend for the Tribe. This is the first weekly honor for Saunders, and the second Rookie of the Week award this season for the Tribe program after Cate Johnson (Charlottesville, Va.) was honored two weeks ago.
Saunders scored a goal and an assist as W&M went 1-1 last weekend. In the 4-0 shutout of Delaware on Friday night, she helped on Emma Clifton's (Loomberah, NSW) first goal, making the score 2-0 just before halftime. Sunday at Richmond, she scored the Tribe's lone goal in a 2-1 loss, tying the score at 1-1 in the 13th minute on a pass from Christine Johnson (Williamsburg, Va.). For the season, Saunders ranks fourth on the team with three goals and nine points, and also ranks fifth with three assists.
The Tribe is back in action this weekend, hosting #18 Drexel and Towson on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
