The William and Mary men's cross country team took two of the three end-of-year awards handed out by the Colonial Athletic Association Thursday, as redshirt-freshman Rad Gunzenhauser (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and coach Stephen Walsh each came away with honors from the league-wide vote.  It is the fifth year in a row and 10th in the last 11 that the Tribe has claimed at least two award-winners.

Gunzenhauser was selected as the CAA's Rookie of the Year, after highlighting his season with a All-CAA fifth-place showing at the conference championships.  His time of 25:17 was good for third on the team, and was 1:17 and 20 places better than the next freshman at the championships.  Gunzenhauser was also third for W&M at Lehigh's Paul Short Invitational in his first uniformed cross country race, and ran for the Tribe at Wisconsin and at the Southeast Regional.  His selection marks the fifth year in a row that the College has had the Rookie of the Year in cross country, and the 12th time overall.

Walsh was voted by his peers as the Coach of the Year for the second time, after continuing the Tribe's run atop the CAA medal stand.  W&M totaled 27 points in claiming its 12th-straight conference title, a run that is the fourth-longest active winning streak in the nation and tied for eighth-longest in Division I history.  The Tribe's 34 total conference titles (19 in the CAA, 15 in the Southern Conference) surpassed Texas this year to stand third-most in NCAA history, behind only Wisconsin (45) and Arkansas (41).  Walsh also led the team to third at the Southeast Regional, the 13th-consecutive top-three showing for the College, and an overall record of 83-40 (.675).

The awards are voted on by the CAA's coaches, who are not allowed to vote for themselves or their athletes.  Northeastern's Eric Jenkins, the individual conference titlist, won the Athlete of the Year award in addition to the accolades for Gunzenhauser and Walsh.
