WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Jan. 11, 2014) – The William and Mary women’s gymnastics team posted its best season-opening score of the last decade with an impressive 190.725-183.050 victory against Cortland at Kaplan Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Brittany Stover highlighted the Tribe’s performances, as she claimed titles on vault, bars, beam and in all-around. Her all-around score of 38.975 ranks tied for seventh all-time at W&M.
Senior Jess Pritchard also earned an event title with a winning score of 9.800 on floor, while she placed second in all-around (38.100).
The College opened the meet on vault and posted a team total of 48.150. Stover claimed her first title of the day with a 9.800 in the event, while junior Kristie Wei (9.650) and sophomore Alyssa Glass (9.650) tied for second.
Stover also claimed the bars title with a 9.750 en route to helping the squad earn a 46.600. Glass (9.450) and Pritchard (9.250) rounded out the top three finishers.
In the third rotation, W&M recorded a 47.700 on beam and was led by Stover’s winning score of 9.750. Junior Brandy Stover placed second with a 9.725.
The Green and Gold closed out the meet on floor and registered a team score of 48.275. Pritchard’s 9.800 won the event, while freshman Olivia O'Connor (9.700) and Brittany Stover (9.675) placed second and third, respectively.
The Tribe will return to action when it competes at Central Michigan next Friday.
