WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 8, 2014) – The William and Mary women’s gymnastics team defeated Cornell, 192.800 – 192.550, on Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Arena.
Sophomore standout Brittany Stover highlighted the Tribe’s performances by breaking her own school record in all-around with a 39.175. Additionally, she claimed the vault (9.850) and floor (9.775) titles, while junior Brandy Stover won the beam title (9.825).
W&M opened the meet on vault and tied for the 10th-best score in school history with a 48.600, as Tribe gymnasts earned the top three spots. Brittany Stover posted the top score with a 9.850, which ties for seventh all-time at W&M, while freshman Olivia O'Connor (9.775) and senior Larson Lasek (9.700) placed second and third, respectively. O’Connor’s score equaled a career high.
Brittany Stover led the College on bars and placed second with a season-high 9.775 en route to helping the team earn a 48.500. Senior Jessica Pritchard and O’Connor also came up big and tied for third with a pair of 9.750’s. The score represented a career-high for O’Connor and equaled a season best for Pritchard.
W&M recorded a season-high 48.475 on floor, as the Tribe earned the top three spots. Brittany Stover claimed her second event title of the afternoon with a career-high 9.775, while freshman Briana Gironda placed second with a career-best 9.725. Lasek finished third with a 9.675.
In addition to Brittany Stover, Lasek (38.650) and O’Connor (38.200) also competed as all-arounders and placed third an fourth, respectively.
The Tribe will return to action next weekend when it wraps up the regular season with a pair of home meets. W&M will host North Carolina, Rutgers and Brown on Friday, March 14, before welcoming Temple to Kaplan Arena on Sunday, March 16, for Senior Day.
