Washington, D.C. - The College of William and Mary women's gymnastics team opened the season Sunday with a seventh-place showing at the George Washington Invitational at the Charles Smith Center in Washington, D.C.

The Tribe compiled a team score of 181.800 in the seven-team event. Nationally-ranked North Carolina captured the team title with a score of 190.850 ahead of Towson (188.375), George Washington (187.000), Penn (184.975), Temple (183.725), Cornell (183.425) and the College.

Senior Jaci Lynn (Copley, OH/Copley) and sophomore Christina Padilla (Sterling, VA/Potomac Falls) turned in the best individual results for the Tribe, as the pair tied for eighth place on vault with scores of 9.750. Junior Annie Carroll (Virginia Beach, VA/Kempsville) recorded a 9.625 in the event, while freshman Tricia Long (Humble, TX/Humble) posted a respectable 9.550 in her first collegiate competition. The Tribe compiled a team score of 47.750 on vault.

On the uneven bars, sophomore Jess Randall (West Hartford, CT/Conard) paced the squad with a 9.350, while classmate Andrea Dochney (Westmont, NJ/Haddon Township) recorded a 9.250.

Freshman Stevie Waldman (Downingtown, PA/Downington) had an admirable start to her collegiate career, as the first-year performer turned in the Tribe's top score on balance beam Sunday with a 9.275. Keeping with the youth movement, Long recorded the team's second-best mark on beam with a 9.150. Junior Kristen Gaidish (Abington, PA/Abington) was just behind Long with a 9.125 on beam.

In the floor exercise, Carroll set the team standard with a 9.100, which unfortunately for the Tribe, was the only individual score over nine on the floor.

The Tribe returns to action this Friday night with one of its two home events of the season, a 7:30 p.m. meet with North Carolina at William and Mary Hall.
