Q: Why did you choose
the Tribe?
I chose William and Mary primarily because of the experience I had on
my recruiting trip. I didn't know much about the school before I came on an
official visit and after that visit I really felt like I had a good idea
regarding what this place was all about. I loved the sense of family and togetherness
I felt when I met the men and women on the gymnastics team, and I loved how the
school and the athletic department was built on so much tradition.
Q: Describe a moment
when you felt the most Tribe pride...
I think a moment where I have felt the most Tribe Pride was my freshman
season (2009) when our team placed 3rd at USAG Nationals. We had an
amazing first night of competition that qualified us for team finals the
following night. There was a lot of competition and we ended up beating the
team that was picked to win. It was such a memorable night because it was the
last competition for our seniors, which made it very special to me to watch
them perform for the last time. Looking back on it, it was a very high-pressure
situation and I don't even remember being nervous at all-it was one of the most
fun and high-energy competitions of my college career. I felt to proud standing
on the 3rd-place podium spot with my teammates feeling so honored to
represent my school as being the 3rd best team in the country.
Q: Take us through
your pre-game mental preparation routine:
My pre-game mental preparation includes a lot of visualization. I put
my headphones in and I visualize myself doing my routines out in the arena over
and over again. I also have to have a Monster energy drink before each meet!
Q: What are some
community activities you or your team has done?
Every fall, our team participates in and raises money for the JDRF
(Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) Walk for Diabetes. We raise money from
family and friends that goes toward research for juvenile diabetes and then
walk a 5k on the day of the event.
Q: What is your
intended or declared major and why?
I am a Kinesiology & Health Sciences major. I chose this because
it is what interests me and is what I am very passionate about it. I have
always been and will continue to be fascinated by the human body and all it is
capable of.
Q: Describe your dream
job:
Being a sideline reporter for ESPN is definitely my dream job. I would
love to be down on the field/court interviewing players and coaches during and
after games and be on camera.
Q: If you could play
another sport at W&M what would it be and why?
I think it would be a lot of fun to be on the swim and dive team and be
a diver! A lot of gymnasts I knew growing up left the sport of gymnastics for
diving and were very successful at it and had a lot of fun with it. It would be
nice to land in the water versus taking the hard landings in gymnastics!
Q: Favorite team
tradition/activity and why?
My favorite team tradition/activity is our annual Christmas party.
Each year, our men's and women's teams volunteer at the club gymnastics meet
that is hosted at William & Mary Hall and after the meet is over, we tear
down the equipment in the area and then rush back to our homes to get ready and
put on our fancy clothes for the party! We do a gift exchange and it is the
last time before we all leave for Winter Break that our entire team is
together! The Christmas party each year for the last 4 years has been one of my
favorite college memories.
Q: Which teammate will
have the most interesting job in 10 years and why?
I think Lindsey Nichol will have the most interesting job in 10 years.
I think her outgoing personality will take her very far and I am hoping that
one day she will be a backup dancer for Usher or Britney Spears.
Q: What is your
favorite quote or phrase?
Colossians 3:23- "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as
working for the Lord, not for men."
Q: What is your
favorite type of food (i.e. Chinese, Mexican, etc.)?
Chinese
Q: Favorite place you
have visited or traveled to and why?
Hawaii is definitely my favorite place to travel. I have been there
about a dozen times now with my family and I don't think I will ever get sick of
it! It is such a beautiful place and I just love the island life.
Q: If you could sit
down for lunch with anyone in the world who would it be and why?
It would have to be Troy Tulowitzki-the shortstop for the Colorado
Rockies. He is my absolute favorite baseball player and I am pretty obsessed
with him.
Q: Most addicting
television show?
Kourtney & Kim Take New York, Khloe and Lamar, and Keeping up with
the Kardashians...basically anything that has to do with the Kardashians
Q: Tell us something about
yourself that most people don't know...
Most people don't know that I love to cook-it is probably my favorite
hobby next to gymnastics. I love learning and experimenting with making new
things and cooking for my friends and family whenever I can.
Q: What was your
most-commented Facebook post?
I really can't remember but I'm guessing it was a status post from
back in 2007 when the Rockies made it to the World Series.
Q: What's number one
on your bucket list and why?
Going to a World Series game.
Q: What is your best
non-athletic skill?
Cooking
Q: Favorite Person to
follow on Twitter?
The
Fake ESPN. Their tweets are absolutely hilarious.
Q: What is your
biggest pet peeve and why?
When
people misuse the possessive "your" and the contraction "you're"
Q: What is something
you are afraid of?
Spiders,
cock roaches and clowns.
Q: What is an obstacle
you had to overcome in your life?
Moving
out here to Williamsburg from Colorado my freshman year was a pretty large
obstacle to overcome. Being away from my family and adjusting to college life
far away from home was difficult at first. My family is so important to me and
in the beginning I was homesick and missed my family tremendously. Also, the
fall of the freshman year I partially tore my ACL and was out of gymnastics for
a significant amount of time. I remember lying on the training room table being
so afraid and being so unsure about the outcome of my injury and what my season
would be like. I ended up coming back from the injury and having a very
successful freshman season despite the injury and despite having to wear a
bulky knee brace for the entire season. Attitude and perseverance truly is
everything.
