WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William and Mary women's soccer senior midfielder Mallory Schaffer was named to the 2012 Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy watch list for the 2012 season. For Schaffer, it marks the second consecutive season in which she has been named to the watch list. Last season, she was a semifinalist for the award.
Schaffer enters her senior season as the reigning Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year as she led the Tribe with 17 goals and 40 points last year. In 2011, she earned first-team NSCAA All-America honors, while garnering first-team CAA and first-team all-region accolades. For her efforts on and off of the field in 2011, Schaffer was named the CAA women's soccer Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Out of the 38 individuals on the 2012 MAC Hermann Trophy watch list, Schaffer is one of eight semi-finalists to return to the ballot from a year ago. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the peak individual award in intercollegiate soccer and is presented each year in January, at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Tribe Women's Soccer opens the 2012 campaign Friday, Aug.17, as it plays host to Duke University at Martin-Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. W&M will enter the contest coming off of a CAA Championship, a NCAA tournament appearance and a 17-3-2 ledger from last season, while the Blue Devils come to Williamsburg garnering a preseason No. 2 national ranking per NSCAA and a NCAA tournament title match appearance in 2011. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
