Tribe Women's Soccer Hosts Richmond

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary women's soccer team will host the Richmond Spiders on Wednesday, Aug. 29, at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field.  The Match is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff and fans can follow the action online at TribeAthletics.com with live video streaming and stats.

Scouting the Tribe
The College enters the contest against Richmond with a record of 1-2.  Last weekend, the Tribe competed in the First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic. In its first game against tournament host Tennessee, the Green and Gold fell in a hard fought double overtime match, 1-0.  On Sunday, W&M rebounded nicely with a 4-0 victory over Akron.  Senior Cortlyn Bristol led the College's attack against the Zips, scoring two goals and tallying an assist.  In the early going, Bristol leads the Tribe with five points (2 goals and 1 assist), while classmate Mallory Schaffer has tallied four points on two goals.  Junior Audrey Barry continues to impress as the Fairfax Station, Va., native has netted one goal and an assist.

Scouting the Spiders
Under the direction of 17th year head coach Peter Albright, Richmond comes to Williamsburg with a record of 0-3.  Richmond opened the season falling to No. 3 Wake Forest, 4-1.  The Spiders were also defeated by No. 22 Virginia Tech, 2-0, and Longwood, 2-1, in double overtime.   Leading the Spider's offensively are sophomores Ashley Williams and Meghan Hayden, who have each tallied a goal on the season.  For the year, Richmond has netted two goals with both scores coming in second-half action.  Between the posts, senior Andrea Young has recorded 11 saves in 290 minutes of action.

News and Notes
- Since the series inception in 1996, the College owns an 8-1-1 edge over Richmond.  The teams last played in Williamsburg during the 2010 season as the Tribe outlasted the Spiders, 1-0.  Last season, the Green and Gold fell at Richmond, 2-0.

- The Tribe concluded play in the First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic by defeating Akron, 4-0.  Behind three first-half goals, the Tribe cruised past the Zips for its first victory of the 2012 season.  Senior Cortlyn Bristol led the W&M attack, netting two goals and an assist.  Senior Mallory Schaffer connected on her second score of the season, while junior Audrey Barry poured in the College's fourth goal of the afternoon and her first of the year.  After play ended at UT, three W&M players were named to the Lady Vol Classic all-tournament team.  Senior's Cortlyn Bristol and Mallory Schaffer along with freshman keeper Caroline Casey garnered all-tournament team honors.

- In the College's first game at the Lady Vol Classic, W&M dropped a hard fought, 1-0, double overtime decision to tournament host Tennessee.  The Vols connected on a penalty kick in the 106th minute for the game-winner.  Freshman goalie Caroline Casey turned in an impressive performance against the Vols, recording a career-high nine saves in the contest.

- After hosting Richmond on Wednesday, Aug. 29, the College will hit the road for a three-game stretch beginning with a trip to Auburn on Sunday, Sept. 2.  After its match with the Tigers, the Green and Gold will play in a tournament at Villanova.  On Sept. 7, the Tribe will match up against the host Wildcats, and two days later W&M will conclude its three-game road stint with a contest against Seton Hall
