The William and Mary track and field and cross country teams will host the Sentara Colonial Half Marathon & 5K this Sunday, Feb. 23, welcoming over 1,100 runners to Williamsburg in the three races.  Registration is still open until 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, at $65 for the half marathon, $40 for the 5K run, and $5 for the 1/2 mile kids fun run.  Both the half marathon and the 5K will feature fully automatic chip timing, courtesy of Colonial Sports Timing.

Races Maps and Additional Information (www.colonialhalfmarathon.com)

The feature race is the 35th annual half marathon, which begins at corner of Landrum Drive and Jamestown Road at 1:10 p.m. The USAT&F-certified course takes runners through downtown Williamsburg and out along Carter's Grove Country Road to Kingsmill before looping back and finishing inside of Kaplan Arena at W&M Hall.  All entrants in the half marathon recieve a tech shirt, and finishers earn a special medallion.  The prize purse of $2,000 pays $500 to the overall winer, $300 for second, and $200 for third for both men and women.  Also, the top 10 finishers in each gender as well as the overall Master's winner and age group winners will receive varying levels of New Balance kit.

In addition to the half marathon, there will also be the 5K campus run, which will go off at 1:00 p.m. also from the corner of Landrum and Jamestown.  The course winds through William and Mary's campus, and finishes inside of W&M Hall.  The overall winner and master's winner in each gender will receive a New Balance kit, as well as gold, silver, and bronze medals to the top three finishers in each age group, overall, and master's.

For the second year in a row, the day will also feature a half-mile kids fun run around W&M Hall.  The run will begin at the back ramp of W&M Hall, make a loop along the sidewalks surrounding the building, and finish inside the arena.  All finishers in the race will receive a medal.

In addition to the races, a health and fitness expo will be held in W&M Hall along the upper level concourse from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Numerous vendors will be on hand, including Sentara, New Balance, Qdoba, Zaxby's, Diamond Springs, Power Bar, and the W&M Bookstore.

The Sentara Colonial Half Marathon & 5K annually attracts over 1,000 runners from every continent and all 50 states to Williamsburg.  Elite runners in the field typically include entrants from Europe, Asia, and Africa; as well as state, local, and W&M-alumni athletes.  Proceeds from the event go to benefit the Tribe's elite track and field and cross country programs, which rank among the nation's finest.

Sentara Health is in its third year of sponsorship of the Colonial Half Marathon, as part of its ongoing commitment to the health and welfare of the Mid-Atlantic region.  For more than a decade, Sentara's integrated healthcare system of more than 100 care sites and over 4,000 providers has been ranked among the best in the nation.  For more information, visit Sentara.com.
