LOUISVILLE, KY - The William and Mary women's cross country finished ninth Saturday morning at the Southeast Region Championships, placing one runner on the all-region team in the process. No. 12 Virginia won the race with 65 points, ahead of North Carolina, Duke, and North Carolina State. The Wolfpack's Laura Hoer, a freshman, continue her impressive season with the individual win in 19:54.5, seven seconds ahead of North Carolina's Kendra Schaaf.

The Tribe was led by freshman Elaina Balouris (Allison Park, Pa.), who earned all-region honors with her 23rd-place finish in 21:06.4. Balouris was the fourth freshman across the line in the race, behind three from ACC schools, and is the first freshman from W&M to finish in the top-25 since Emily Halm '04 did it at the 2000 regional. Freshman Kathleen Lautzenheiser (Midlothian, Va.) was second for the team in 21:21.2, finishing 32nd overall. Senior Betsy Graney (Harper Woods, Mich.) was 49th in 21:38.2, and redshirt-freshman Megan Fitzpatrick (Ashburn, Va.) was fourth for the Green and Gold in 22:17.6, taking 82nd. Rounding out the top five for W&M was Sara Lasker (Fredericksburg, Va.) in 22:30.9, and Kelsey Budd (Oakton, Va.) and Avery Mattingly (Blacksburg, Va.) finished one after the other, in 22:46.8 and 22:47.9, respectively.
William and Mary will close out its season next Saturday in New York City, racing at the ECAC Championships in Van Cortlandt Park.
