WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Dec. 21, 2015)—After establishing himself as one of the most outstanding and dynamic defensive playmakers in the William & Mary football program's 122-year history, senior free safety
DeAndre Houston-Carson has earned consensus first-team All-America status.
The Woodford, Va., native became just the third player in school history to garner the distinction with his selection to the
American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-America Team on Monday. Last week, Houston-Carson earned first-team All-America accolades by the Association Press, STATS and Walter Camp Football Foundation.
A finalist for the 2015 STATS FCS National Defensive Player of the Year award and a Senior Bowl invitee, Houston-Carson effectively transitioned from an all-league cornerback to one of the country's top free safeties this season. Honored as the Colonial Athletic Association co-Defensive Player of the Year and one of three finalists for the Dudley Award, the first-team all-conference selection led W&M in tackles (109) and ranked first in the league in tackles per game among defensive backs (8.4). Additionally, he ranked tied for second in the CAA in interceptions (four) and interception return yards (124). A two-time CAA Special Teams Player of the Week, he has also posted a pair of blocks.
The Woodford, Va., native's impressive career stats include 293 tackles, 10 interceptions and nine blocks.
