RICHMOND, Va. - For the second time in his career and first time this season, William & Mary men's basketball senior
Terry Tarpey was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Tarpey averaged 16 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and four steals per game in helping the Tribe to two wins last week. With its victories at Drexel and over Northeastern, W&M moved into first place in the CAA standings at 3-1.

Tarpey, who was also honored as the College Sports Madness CAA Player of the Week, scored a season-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting in the Tribe's 72-63 win at Drexel on Thursday. The Tribe senior topped the team with six rebounds and a career-high tying six steals. The six steals are the most by a CAA player against a Division I opponent this season and the fourth-best single-game total in W&M history.

In the Tribe's 78-60 victory over Northeastern on Saturday, Tarpey posted his second double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. He also added three assists, two steals and a blocked shot, while connecting on 5-of-10 from the field. The double-double was the 13th of Tarpey's career, which ranks fourth in W&M history. With his two steals against the Huskies, he moved into fifth on the Tribe's career steals list with 149.

Tarpey, who was the CAA Defensive Player of the Year and Second Team All-CAA last season, ranks third on the team at 10.1 points per game, while leading the Green and Gold at 7.8 rebounds per contest. He leads the CAA in both steals (2.9) and blocked shots (1.5) per game. He is third in the league in rebounding and 13th in assists per game (2.5). Tarpey ranks fourth nationally in steals per game.

The Tribe hits the road for a pair of CAA tilts next week. W&M treks to Charleston on Thursday, Jan. 14, for a 7:30 p.m. tip, before traveling to UNCW on Saturday, Jan. 16. The Tribe-Seahawks match-up will be televised on the American Sports Network at 2 p.m. The broadcast can also be seen over CAA.TV.
