Tribe Football Supports Be The Match

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 28, 2016) – The William & Mary football team continued its support for "Be The Match" by working to increase the organization's bone marrow donor registry during a collective effort last week.

In addition to getting swabbed themselves, members of the team encouraged others in the W&M community to do the same.

Be The Match manages the largest and most diverse bone marrow donor registry in the world. Marrow transplants can provide a cure for more than 70 different diseases, including leukemia, lymphoma and sickle cell anemia.

W&M has participated in similar efforts for the organization in recent years, while the Colonial Athletic Association is also a strong supporter of Be The Match. In October, CAA Football teams took part in "Be The Match Saturday," which was a collective effort between the CAA and Be The Match to raise awareness of the need for bone marrow donors, increase the number of potential donors in the registry, and ultimately save lives. Conference members are continuing that effort this spring by hosting donor registry drives on campuses.

A feature story about former Tribe standout kicker John Carpenter's life-changing experience as a bone marrow donor is available here. Additionally, a video feature produced this fall about the Tribe's commitment to support Be The Match is available here.
