The William & Mary women's track and field got NCAA competition underway Thursday at the Eastern Prelims in Jacksonville, with three women competing in two events. The top finisher for the Tribe was senior
Emily Stites (Wyoming, Ohio), who wrapped up her outstanding four-year career with a 34:52.11 showing in the 10,000m for 15th place. Stites was just 11 seconds behind qualifying, and finishes her collegiate career as W&M's all-time leading All-American for women's track with seven All-American honors. Also in the 10,000m, fellow senior
Meghan McGovern (North Wales, Pa.) ran 34:59.63, and finished a best-ever 17th. She will have one more shot at qualifying for her first NCAA finals trip on Saturday, when she runs the 5,000m. Earlier in the afternoon, sophomore
Leia Mistowski (Narragansett, R.I.) threw the hammer 51.06m (167-6), good for 45th overall in her first NCAA appearance. Mistowski was the CAA Champion this season for the second year in a row, and broke her own school-record in the event twice in the last three weeks, finishing at 57.24m (187-9).
The NCAA Prelims continue Friday, with Green and Gold athletes competing in the 3,000m Steeplechase.
