WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Jan. 15, 2017)—The William & Mary men's gymnastics team opened its 2017 season with a strong showing at the State Open at Kaplan Arena on Sunday afternoon, as the squad claimed all six individual event titles.
Senior
Rob Meyer and freshman
Tomas Palma led the way with two titles apiece, as Meyer finished first on parallel bars (13.45) and tied for first on rings (13.45) while Palma won floor (13.15) and tied for top honors on vault (14.0). Meyer's impressive afternoon also included a second-place finish on pommel horse (13.15).
Junior
Griffin Antle also posted an impressive season-opening performance by earning the meet's top score on pommel horse (13.65) and placing second on parallel bars (13.1).
W&M's other individual event winners included sophomore
Peter Makey on rings (13.45, T1st), freshman
Tim O'Neill on vault (14.0, T1st) and junior
Mitchell Campbell on high bar (13.0).
Senior
Aria Sabbagh was the top all-arounder with a 71.65, while sophomore
David Allen finished second (70.1).
The Tribe will return to action when it competes at the Navy Open next Saturday.
