CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Feb. 24, 2017) – The William & Mary women's gymnastics team fell at North Carolina, 195.625 – 191.250, on Friday evening.
The Tribe's best performance came on vault where it earned a season-high 48.600. The impressive score ranks just outside the program's top-10 list in the event.
Olivia O'Connor highlighted W&M's individual performances with a third-place showing in all-around (38.550) and on vault (9.800). Additionally, she posted the squad's top score in three of the four events.
In addition to O'Connor's season-best effort on vault, freshman
Caroline Caponi and sophomore
Katie Webber also came up big with a pair of 9.750's. The score represents a career high for Caponi and equals a career best for Webber.
Prior to competing on vault, the Tribe opened the meet on bars and recorded a 47.550. O'Connor led the way with a 9.625, while freshman
Taylor White posted a 9.600.
In the third rotation of the evening, W&M totaled a 48.175 on floor as Caponi earned a team-best 9.725. Sophomore
Aaliyah Kerr also contributed to the team total with a 9.675.
The Tribe closed the meet on beam with a 46.925. O'Connor once again led the way with a 9.550, while senior
Briana Gironda posted a 9.525.
The Tribe will return to action when it competes at a five-team meet hosted by Maryland on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
