SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Feb. 5, 2017)—The William & Mary men's gymnastics team defeated Springfield, 395.8 – 389.9, at the New England Championships on Sunday afternoon.
In addition to posting the top scores in four events, W&M recorded season highs on floor (67.05) and pommel horse (66.7).
Highlighting the Tribe's efforts individually were five gymnasts who claimed event titles. Senior
Neal Courter led the way by winning high bar (13.35) and tying for first on floor (13.8), while junior
Griffin Antle (13.8) and sophomore
Jacopo Gliozzi tied for first on pommel horse (13.8). Additionally, senior
Nick Van Dyke won vault (14.6) and
Rob Meyer posted the meet's top mark on parallel bars (14.1).
Courter's winning score on floor (13.8) represented a season high, while freshman
Tim O'Neill tied for third with a career-best 13.7 to help the Tribe record its best mark of the year on floor (67.05).
W&M's season high on pommel horse (66.7) was fueled by Antle and Gliozzi's first-place performances. The 13.8 marked a season-high for Antle.
The College recorded a 63.8 on rings, as Meyer (13.5) and sophomore
David Watkins (12.9) led the way and placed second and third, respectively.
The Tribe went 1-2 on vault with Van Dyke's career-best 14.6 and O'Neill's 13.9 to help the squad earn a 68.8.
W&M gymnasts tallied the top three scores on parallel bars en route to earning a 66.55. Meyer won the event with a 14.1 and was followed by junior
Jeremiah McReynolds (13.5) and senior
Aria Sabbagh (13.3).
Courter's winning score on high bar (13.35) was a season high and helped W&M register a 62.9 in the event.
The Tribe will return to action next Saturday when it competes against Illinois-Chicago at the Peachtree Invitational in Atlanta.
