COLLEGE PARK, Md. (March 1, 2017) – The William & Mary women's gymnastics team placed fifth at a five-team meet hosted by Maryland on Wednesday evening.
Maryland claimed the team title with a 195.800 and was followed by New Hampshire (195.275), Temple (194.900), West Chester (193.225) and W&M (191.050).
Senior
Briana Gironda highlighted the Tribe's individual performances by placing second on bars with a 9.850. The impressive score equaled a career high and ranks tied for eighth all-time at W&M in the event.
Led by Gironda's outstanding effort, the Green & Gold's best collective performance came on bars where it totaled a 48.450. Senior
Olivia O'Connor also came up big with a 9.750, while junior
Monica Ouellet and freshman
Taylor White posted a pair of 9.675's.
W&M opened the meet on floor and posted a 47.800, as freshman
Aaliyah Kerr led the squad and tied for 10th overall with a 9.800. Gironda also contributed to the team total with a 9.775.
After a bye in the second rotation, the Tribe moved to vault and earned a 46.975. Sophomore
Katie Webber registered a team-best 9.600 in the event.
Following the Tribe's outstanding effort on bars, W&M closed out the meet on beam with a 47.825. O'Connor led the way with a season-high 9.750 to tie for 10th, while Gironda tallied a 9.725.
Gironda was the team's top all-arounder with a 38.650, while O'Connor also competed in all four events (38.150).
The Tribe will return to action when it hosts North Carolina at Kaplan Arena for Senior Day on Saturday at 3 p.m.
