PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Former William & Mary women's soccer standout Rachel Moore was selected with the first pick of the fourth round (31st overall) by the Washington Spirit in the National Women's Soccer League draft on Thursday.
 
"Though I haven't had the honor of coaching Rachel, I followed her career closely the last couple of years," said new head women's soccer coach Julie Shackford, who is a product of the same Braddock Road Soccer Club that Moore was a player for prior to her W&M career. "She is the consummate central player, and I am thrilled she has earned this opportunity. It is great to keep her in the area, and head coach Jim Gabarra is one of the best in the game."

A two-time All-CAA First-Team selection and a five time All-CAA honoree, Moore finished her senior season with five goals, four assists, and 14 points. She also added the game-winning goal in the Tribe's win over Boston College on Aug. 20. For her career, she appeared in 80 career matches, with 77 starts, adding 20 goals, 15 assists, and 55 points, while scoring the game-winning marker seven times throughout her career.
 
Aside from her All-CAA Accolades, she earned United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) All-Region honors twice, and was named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors All-State team twice as well.
 
The Vienna, Virginia native becomes the ninth player in school history to be drafted by a professional women's soccer league. She is just the third W&M player to be drafted in the current NWSL, joining both Mallory Shaffer '13 (second round, 15th overall) and Caroline Casey '16 (third round, 29th overall).
 
In 2017, W&M qualified for its fifth straight Colonial Athletic Association Semifinal. The Tribe is the lone team in the conference to appear in the last five tournaments.
