WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (March 10, 2018) – The William & Mary men's gymnastics team posted its best performance of the season en route to earning a 398.85-387.9 victory against Army on Senior Day at Kaplan Arena.
In addition to recording its top team total of the 2018 campaign, W&M won five of the six events and registered season highs on floor (68.6) and parallel bars (66.55). Additionally, the Tribe tallied its second-best marks of the season on pommel horse (63.9), rings (67.45) and high bar (63.6).
Individually, four Tribe standouts combined to win five event titles.
Griffin Antle earned a pair of titles - on pommel horse (13.9) and parallel bars (13.85) - while
Cutter Fugett (floor, 14.05),
Jeremiah McReynolds (rings, 13.7) and
Tim O'Neill (vault, 14.25) also won events.
Event Recaps
Floor, 68.6 – W&M gymnasts totaled the top five scores on floor en route to earning a season-high 68.6. Fugett won the event with a career-high 14.05 and was followed by
Juan Palma (13.95), O'Neill (13.6),
Jack Hasenkopf (13.5, season high) and
Tomas Palma (13.5).
Pommel Horse, 63.9 – The Tribe swept the top three spots on pommel horse and recorded its second-best score of the season in the event. Antle claimed the title with a season-best 13.9, while Fugett (12.85, career high) and
Jacopo Gliozzi (12.75) placed second and third, respectively.
Rings, 67.45 – Led by McReynolds' winning score of 13.7 on rings, W&M gymnasts tallied the top four marks to post its second-best total of the season in the event.
David Watkins finished second (13.6), while Gliozzi and Makey both earned a 13.450.
Vault, 68.75 – The Green & Gold recorded the meet's top team score on vault and was led by O'Neill's winning score of 14.25. Hasenkopf also contributed to the team total and placed third with a 14.05
Parallel Bars, 66.55 – Antle won his second event of the afternoon with a 13.85 on parallel bars and helped W&M register a season-high 66.55 in the event.
High Bar, 63.6 – The Tribe posted its second-best score of the season on high bar and was led by
David Allen's second-place effort (13.4).
Jeremiah McReynolds (13.35) and
Mitchell Campbell (13.0) also came up big and placed third and fourth, respectively.
All-Around – Hasenkopf was W&M's lone all-arounder and placed second with a 76.1 – his second-best score of the season.
