Women's Basketball Announces the Addition of Stetson Transfer Sydney Wagner

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary head women's basketball coach Ed Swanson announced the addition of Stetson transfer Sydney Wagner for the 2018-19 season. Due to NCAA transfer rules, Wagner will first be eligible to play for the Tribe during the 2019-20 season.

"We are thrilled that Sydney has decided to join the Tribe," Swanson said. "We recruited her heavily out of high school, and are glad she's coming to Williamsburg. A tough, scoring point guard, her game will give us the ability to do different things with our lineup when she is on the floor, and we are excited to get her out there."

Wagner played her freshman season at Stetson in 2017-18 where she appeared in all 32 games with nine starts during her rookie campaign. She helped the Hatters to 17 wins and a berth in the Women's Basketball Invitational by averaging 6.0 points per game (191 points) and 1.5 rebounds (49 rebounds), while adding 29 assists, four blocks, and 18 steals. Wagner was in double figures six times during her freshman year, including scoring a career-high 20 points on 8-of-10 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range in Stetson's win over Florida.

The 5-6 point guard completed her freshman season shooting 37.4-percent (64-for-171) from the floor, while knocking down 38.8-precent (40-for-103) from 3-point range, and 83.3-percent from the stripe (.833).  Wagner also claimed a pair Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Week awards for the weeks of Nov. 28 and Feb. 20.

Prior to her time at Stetson, Wagner played four years of varsity basketball at Spring-Ford Senior High School in Phoenixville, Pa. Wagner was a first-team all-conference selection as a junior and senior. She enjoyed her best high school season as she averaged 15.3 points per game, 3.0 assists per game, and 2.4 steals per game during her final year. Wagner competed on the AAU circuit with the Philly Freedom Stars.

In the classroom, she was an honor roll student throughout her time at Spring-Ford. She plans on majoring in business systems and analytics here at W&M.

The daughter of Duffy and Alesa Wagner, she enjoys spending time with friends and family and listening music during her free time.
