ATLANTA (Feb. 13, 2016) – The William & Mary men's gymnastics team claimed victory at the Peach Tree Invitational with a season-high score on Saturday evening.
The Tribe won the team title with a 409.6, while Springfield College (409.15) and the University of Illinois at Chicago (399.0) placed second and third, respectively.
En route to posting its top score of the 2016 campaign, W&M earned its best marks of the season in three events – floor (71.2), pommel horse (70.25) and parallel bars (67.56).
Highlighting the College's performances individually were a trio of standouts who claimed individual event titles – sophomore
Griffin Antle (pommel horse, 15.0), senior
Keaton Ackerman (vault, 14.3) and freshman
David Allen (high bar, 13.9). Antle's impressive score ranks second in W&M's all-time record book, while both Ackerman and Allen's efforts represented season highs.
In addition to Antle's outstanding showing on pommel horse, the Warner, N.H., native also placed third on parallel bars with a career-high (14.0).
Junior
Rob Meyer and freshman
Jack Hasenkopf also posted multiple top-three finishes. Meyer placed second on parallel bars with a season-best 14.1 and tied for third on pommel horse with a career-high 14.2. Hasenkopf earned career highs in both all-around (78.6) and floor (14.6) to place second and third, respectively.
A number of other Tribe standouts made significant contributions to the team victory, as senior
Nick Van Dyke placed second on rings (13.7, career high) while senior
Simon Casey (floor, 14.6) and junior
Aria Sabbagh (high bar, 13.65) garnered third-place finishes.
The Tribe will return to action when it competes at Navy next Sunday.
