W&M Alum Adam Hess Signs Pro Contract in Czech Republic

NYMBURK, CZECH REPUBLIC - Former William and Mary men’s basketball standout Adam Hess (Grosse Pointe, MI) recently signed a contract to play for CEZ Basketball Nymburk, a top-division professional team in the Czech Republic. The defending champion of the Czech League and favored to win the league again this season, Nymburk returns eight all-stars from last year, including George Zidek, who played in the NBA with former Tribe assistant coach Joe Wolf. Nymburk also competes for the FIBA Europe Cup, pitting the team against the top programs from countries across Europe, including Belgium, Germany, Hungary, Macedonia, Poland and Russia. Hess is the second W&M player in less than a month to sign a pro contract in Europe, after Zeb Cope (Hopkins, SC) signed to play for C.B. Calpe in Spain’s LEB-1 Division.

Hess made the team after averaging 17 points in six exhibition games during a two-week tryout. He scored 14 points in Sunday’s 101-67 regular season-opening win over BK Prostejov, a team that features former UNC Wilmington player Craig Callahan. Hess continued to play well in his team’s second game earlier today, scoring 13 points in a 111-54 win over Houseri Brno.

A 2004 graduate of W&M, Hess became the first player in school history to lead the Colonial Athletic Association in scoring with 20.3 points per game. A two-time first team All-CAA selection, Hess ended his career 10th in school history with 1,341 points and finished sixth with an average of 17.9 points per game in less than three full seasons at the College.
