W&M Alum Adam Hess Helps Nymburk Win Czech NBL Title

NYMBURK, CZECH REPUBLIC - Former William and Mary men’s basketball standout Adam Hess (Grosse Pointe, MI) scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds as he helped his team, CEZ Basketball Nymburk, defeat Mlékárna Kunín, 95-83, yesterday to win the Czech Republic’s NBL title. Nymburk won the best-of-seven final series, four games to one, and was 10-1 overall in the postseason. With a 30-2 record, Nymburk ended the regular season in first place in the NBL, the Czech Republic’s top professional basketball league.

A participant in the 2005 NBL All-Star Game and the league’s three-point shooting champion earlier this season, Hess averaged 17.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in the postseason. He scored 20 or more points four times in the 11 playoff games, including 29 points on 11 of 16 shooting in the first game of the finals. For the season, Hess averaged 15.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game, shooting 52.9 percent from the field. A 2004 W&M graduate with a degree in finance, he shattered the NBL’s single-game scoring record with 55 points in a game on December 22.

A first team Academic All-American in 2004, Hess was twice voted to the Colonial Athletic Association first team and became the first W&M player ever to lead the league in scoring with 20.3 points per game in 2003-04. In less than three full seasons at W&M, he ended his career 10th in school history with 1,341 points and finished sixth with a career average of 17.9 points per game.
