W&M Grad Todd Cauthorn Signs With England’s Sheffield Sharks

SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND - The Sheffield Sharks of the British Basketball League recently announced that 1993 William and Mary graduate Todd Cauthorn will return to the team as both a player and an assistant coach for the 2005-06 season. Cauthorn had stopped playing professionally after the 2002-03 campaign, when he was named the Most Valuable Player as he led the Chester Jets to the BBL championship. This will be his third stint with the Sharks, having also played for the team from 1994 through 2000 and for the 2001-02 season.

“After having two years away from professional basketball I am thankful for the opportunity that Sheffield is providing,” said Cauthorn. I am looking forward to playing basketball again, as well as gaining some valuable coaching experience at the highest level in England. I have played on several teams with head coach Peter Scantlebury in the past, and anyone in England will tell you that he is a legend in British Basketball. He has a great knowledge of not only the domestic game, but internationally as well. I will definitely benefit from his experience and look forward to working with him this season.”

Cauthorn played for W&M from the 1989-90 through 1992-93 seasons, totaling 780 points and 507 rebounds, with a .527 career field goal percentage, sixth best in school history. He started all 27 games as a senior, when he averaged 12.5 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. Cauthorn is the fourth former Tribe player currently on a professional roster overseas, along with 2004 graduates Zeb Cope (Switzerland’s BC Boncourt) and Adam Hess (Czech Republic’s Nymburk) and 2001 graduate Jim Moran (Spain’s Gran Canaria). 2003 graduate Sherman Rivers is currently trying out with Boncourt, where he would join Cope, his former college teammate.
