Virginia Defeats Tribe Women’s Soccer 2-1 in Double Overtime

WILLIAMSBURG, VA - Virginia’s Noelle Keselica lobbed a volley over the Tribe’s Nikki Villott (Pleasanton, CA) in the 109th minute of double overtime to allow Virginia to escape with a 2-1 win in the final match of the Nike/Tribe Invitational at Barksdale Field. The loss drops the College’s record to 4-2-1, while the Cavs improve to the same mark as W&M.
After a scoreless first half, UVA’s Kelly Hammond crossed the ball from the flank right onto the head of Kara Frederick, who beat Villott with a header into the corner of the net for a 1-0 Cavalier lead.

The College tied it right up just 50 seconds later. Taline Tahmassian (Great Falls, VA) blocked a Virginia clearance attempt at the six yard box, settled the ball and found the back of the net for her third goal of the year.

Deadlocked through the end of regulation time and through the first overtime, UVA broke through in the 109th minute of double overtime. Cavs netminder Anne Abernethy cleared the ball from her own box to Darci Borski, who headed the ball into open space and run down by Keselica. The freshman dribbled unmarked to the 18-yard box and flipped the ball over Villott and into the back of the net to end the match with a 2-1 Virginia win.

W&M is back in action this weekend when it travels to West Virginia for a Mid-Atlantic region match up Friday at 7:00 p.m.
