W&M Men’s Gymnastics Capture State Title

WILLLIAMSBURG, VA - The College of William and Mary’s 11th-ranked men’s gymnastics squad put up a solid team score of 208.00 to down 20th-ranked James Madison (179.75) and capture its record 33rd-straight Virginia State Championship this afternoon in Kaplan Arena.

The College improves its record to 9-8 on the year.

The afternoon’s action was highlighted by the College’s high bar squad, which established a team season best mark of 35.900, bettering the previous high by more than a full point (34.550 set vs. James Madison on 2/19). The
Tribe also set its season best mark on the rings (35.70) and tied its best score on the vault event, as the team flew to a six-score total of 35.85.

Individually, sophomore Aaron Ingram (Paxton, MA) captured the state’s all-around title, by turning in a six-event total of 49.35. James Madison’s Scott Flinn was second in the all-around, with a total of 45.25. Ingram also had the day’s top score on the pommel horse and parallel bars with marks of 8.55 and 8.45, respectively.

Overall, the Tribe took the top three spots in each individual event, led once again by senior All-American Ramon Jackson (Orlando, FL), who had the meet’s top marks on both the rings (9.4) and vault (9.2). Jackson also had a runner-up finish on the high bar (9.1) and was third overall in the floor exercise (8.7).

Freshman Sloan Crawford (Burlington, Ontario, Canada) flipped to the afternoon’s high-score on the floor exercise, registering a personal career best mark of 9.05.

Tomorrow afternoon the top eight in each event will be back in action at Kaplan Arena, contesting for the individual state honors. The meet will start at 2:00 p.m..
