Women’s Cross Country Takes Third at Lou Onesty

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - William and Mary had a solid opening race to the 2006 cross country season, taking third in the 12-team Lou Onesty Invitational with 75 points. Winning the race was the home Cavaliers of Virginia with 29 points, and Wake Forest took second with 41 points. It was truly an opening race for the Tribe, as nine of the team’s 17 harriers were true freshmen.

The Tribe was led in the race by junior all-conference runner Kaitlin Hurley (Portland, OR). In her first race since sitting out the spring with injuries, Hurley took 12th with a time of 18:39.30. Sophomores Emily Schroeder (Midlothian, VA) and Rebecca Ward (Midlothian, VA) came across the finish line one-and-a-half seconds apart, finishing 14th and 16th, respectively. Freshman Anna Brousell (Wilmington, DE) ran well in her first collegiate action, taking 20th in a time of 19:01.80. Sophomore Emily Arena (Manassas, VA) rounded out the top five for the College, taking 22nd in 19:08.50. Serving as displacers were junior NCAA participant Abby Booker (Haddonfield, NJ), 23rd in 19:11.70, and freshman Keely Murphy (Owings, MD), who finished 28th in 19:21.50.

William and Mary returns to action next weekend at the James Madison Open, September 16 in Harrisonburg.
