Women’s Cross Country Takes Third at Colonial Inter-Regional

WILLIAMSBURG - William and Mary’s women’s cross country team put up a tough effort in today’s Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge, but had to settle for third behind No. 23 Georgetown and a surprising Virginia Tech squad. The Hoyas’ Elizabeth Maloy took home the individual title after clearing the six-kilometer course at Eastern State Hospital in 21:34.3.

The Tribe was led once again by senior Meghan Bishop (Blue Bell, PA), who finished sixth overall in 22:10.2. The 2005 Academic All-American has now led the team in the last seven races she’s competed in, dating to the beginning of last season. Next across the line was junior Kaitlin Hurley (Portland, OR), coming in 13th place with a time of 22:38.7. Freshman Anna Brousell (Wilmington, DE) and senior Julia Cathcart (Starkville, MS) crossed in 15th and 16th, and sophomore Rebecca Ward (Midlothian, VA) was the College’s final scorer, finishing 23rd in 23:13.4.

William and Mary returns to action on October 14, when the team’s top echelon of runners travels to the Brooks Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana, and the rest of the squad competes in Williamsburg at the Tribe Open.
