Tribe Women's Gymnastics Announces Schedule

Williamsburg - William and Mary women’s gymnastics head coach Mary Lewis released the Tribe’s 2007 competitive schedule on Tuesday, and the College will once again face a challenging slate featuring national-level programs and some of the top teams in the region.

“I think once again we have a very strong schedule,” said Lewis, who is entering her 13th season at the College. “We have kind of a short January schedule, so it will be important for us to get off to a good start, but overall I think this schedule will definitely prepare us for the ECAC meet and the USAG [Collegiate Nationals].”

The 2007 schedule is highlighted by three home meets at Kaplan Arena, starting with the team’s season-opener on Sunday, January 14th against North Carolina. The Tribe will also host Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference-rival Towson on Wednesday, March 7th and longtime state and ECAC-rival James Madison on Wednesday, March 14th.

After the opener against UNC, W&M will make its annual trip the George Washington Invitational (Jan 20) and visit JMU (Feb. 2), before taking part in two high-profile multi-team events. The Tribe will once again head to N.C. State for the annual Sweetheart Invitational (Feb. 17), which will feature the host Wolfpack, perennial na-tional power Nebraska, NCAA Regional qualifier West Virginia and George Washington. A week later (Feb. 23-24), W&M will participate in the Cat Classic in Columbia, Mo., which will feature NCAA Championship partici-pant Missouri, Illinois State and Ball State.

W&M will make a trip to Towson (March 3) and return to Raleigh again (March 9) to face N.C. State, Arizona and JMU, before closing the regular season against UNC in Chapel Hill on March 23rd.

The ECAC Championship will be held on Saturday, March 31st at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.

The College will also take part in the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Nationals, an event hosted by Seattle Pacific April 19-21.
