Women’s Cross Country Finishes 21st at Pre-Nationals

Cathcart Leads Team in 50th Place

TERRE HAUTE, IN - William and Mary’s women’s cross country team competed Saturday at the Brook’s Pre-National Invitational along with 85 of the top teams from around the nation. In the 34-team “White” Race, the Tribe took 21st, only one point away from the top-20. No. 5 North Carolina State scored the upset victory over third-ranked Michigan, 117-176.

Senior Julia Cathcart (Starkville, MS) led the Tribe in the race, timing 21:12.8 to take 50th place. Classmate Meghan Bishop (Blue Bell, PA) was the second W&M finisher, finishing 64th in 21:23.1. Kaitlin Hurley (Portland, OR) finished 98th in 21:43.2, and freshman Anna Brousell (Wilmington, DE) also finished in under 22 minutes, timing 21:53 even. Emily Schroeder (Midlothian, VA) was fifth for the Tribe with a time of 22:27.9, and Lynn Morelli (Philadelphia, PA) and Rebecca Ward (Midlothian, VA) finished out the Green and Gold contingent.

The College had two juniors compete in the open race, as Erin Prillaman (Midlothian, VA) ran 22:23.8 and Abby Booker (Haddonfield, NJ) finished in 22:40.

William and Mary returns to action on October 27 when it aims for a fourth-consecutive Colonial Athletic Association title in the conference championship in Newark, Delaware.
