Women’s Cross Country Wins Fourth Consecutive CAA Crown

NEWARK, DEL - The looming prospect of Halloween didn’t scare the William and Mary women’s cross country team this morning as it ran away with the program’s fourth consecutive Colonial Athletic Association crown, and 14th overall. James Madison’s Dena Spickard won the individual title with a time of 21:33.99 for the 6K course to lead JMU to a third-place finish behind Georgia State.

The Tribe was led at the championships by senior Meghan Bishop (Blue Bell, Penn.), who claimed runner-up honors for her fourth all-conference accolade. The College’s top runner in eight of her past nine races, Bishop finished in 21:42.76 to become the seventh W&M harrier to earn four All-CAA honors in her career. Finishing right behind her was junior Kaitlin Hurley (Portland, Ore.), who earned her second All-CAA nod by placing third in 22:02.89. Sophomore Emily Schroeder (Midlothian, VA.) was third across the line, finishing fifth overall with a time of 22:22.24, and freshman Anna Brousell (Wilmington, Del.) led senior Anna Parker (Charlotte, N.C.) and junior Emily Gousen (Arlington, Va.) through the gate in seventh, eighth, and ninth places. Each earned their first spot on the All-CAA team.

Also running for the Tribe, juniors Erin Prillaman (Midlothian, Va.) and Julie Taylor (Wilmington, Del.) finished 13th and 14th, respectively, and redshirt-freshman Lynn Morelli (Philadelphia, Penn.) was right behind them in 15th with a time of 22:50.33. Sophomore Rebecca Ward (Midlothian, Va.) was 18th in 22:57.21, and Abby Booker (Haddonfield, N.J.) just missed the top-20 with her 21st-place showing in 23:06.44. Freshman Keely Murphy (Owings, Md.) rounded out the team’s effort, finishing in 24:14.95.

William and Mary returns to action next weekend, November 4, when half of the team travels to the Cavalier Open in Charlottesville, Virginia, and the rest hold a “Run for the Cure” benefit for the Massey Cancer Center on campus.
