Men’s Cross Country Wins Seventh Consecutive CAA Title

NEWARK, DEL - In a rite of fall that has become as regular as changing clocks back one hour, William and Mary’s men’s cross country team won the Colonial Athletic Association Championships for the 14th time in the last 17 years. The win, seventh in a row, ties the CAA record set by Navy from 1983-1989. James Madison’s CW Moran won the individual title in a course-record time of 24:33.39 to lead the Dukes to second place.

Senior Sean Anastasia-Murphy (Gloucester, Mass.) was the top Green and Gold harrier, crossing the line in fourth place for his third all-conference honor. He led three teammates through the line with his time of 25:12.35. Dave Mock (Johnstown, Penn.) was 5th in 25:12.72, Anthony Arena (Manassas, Va.) finished sixth in 25:15.88, and senior Jason Schoener (Grand Blanc, Mich.) was seventh with a time of 25:21.60. Earning their first All-CAA accolades (given to the top 12 finishers at the Championships) were three more Tribe athletes. Senior Dan Nally (Warrenton, Va.) finished tenth, and was followed in quick succession by junior James Picard (Midlothian, Va.) and senior Joel Parker (Portsmouth, Va.).

Also running for the College, junior Jared Campbell (Franklin, Ind.) was 15th in 25:47.33, and senior Matt Wolak (Richmond, Va.) was 18th in 25:52.65. Junior Rob Dennis (Little Silver, N.J.) rounded out the top-25 by crossing the line in 26:12.53. Junior Dan MacKay (Whitinsville, Mass.) was 29th, and sophomore David Groff (Centreville, Va.) finished out the Tribe effort in 38th place.

William and Mary returns to action next weekend, November 4, when half of the team travels to the Cavalier Open in Charlottesville, Virginia, and the rest hold a “Run for the Cure” benefit for the Massey Cancer Center on campus.
