Paolini Leads Tribe After First Day

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - William and Mary’s women’s golf team posted two respectable rounds yesterday at the Ross Resorts Invitational, and sit in 13th heading into today’s final stanza. Being 13th on Halloween might be ominous to some, but the Tribe women hope to get a treat while the other teams in the field get tricked. Host school Rollins College leads the tournament at +24, and also boasts the individual leader in Vanessa Vela at 142 (-2).

Freshman Brielle Paolini (Virginia Beach, Va.) leads the Tribe after the first two rounds of play. She shot 81 in the morning and came back with 79 in the afternoon to finish the day in a tie for 43rd. One stroke back, senior captain Melissa DePuy (Naples, Fla.) is in 53rd at 162. Misha Harvey (Forest, Va.) and freshman Morgan Stepanek (Guilford, Conn.) were also separated by a single stroke. Harvey posted a pair of 83’s to tie for 61st, while Stepanek had the day’s biggest improvement, cutting five strokes between rounds to finish the second round with a score of 81. Freshman Robyn English (Warwick, R.I.) improved a stroke between rounds, closing the day with an 86.

The final round of the tournament is today.
