Tribe Places Third at Temple

Philadelphia, Pa. - William and Mary’s 13th-ranked men’s gymnastics squad produced a season-best team score of 190.85 to place third in a four-team meet hosted by Temple University this afternoon in McGonigle Hall.

The Tribe improved moved its record to (2-3) on the season. The meet’s top performance was turned in by fifth-ranked Penn State, which posted a team mark of 210.225. The Nittany Lions came into the event one-week removed from posting the nation’s top team mark in the sport’s opening weekend (214.20). Temple University placed second on the afternoon, with a mark of 198.85. James Madison University rounded out the field with a team-mark of 160.30.

William and Mary showed significant improvement in all the events over its season opening effort last weekend, improving its overall mark by nearly four full points (186.65).

The College’s Derek Gygax (Stevensville, Md.) established his first career all-around total by posting a solid six-event total of 45.85, the team’s top all-around score.

Tribe sophomore Sloan Crawford (Burlington, Ontario) had a standout afternoon as well, as he turned in the team’s top score on both the floor exercise (8.75) and vault (8.05). His floor exercise mark was the team’s season best mark. Junior Aaron Ingram (Holden, Mass) led the team on both the pommel horse (7.85) and parallel bars (8.30), while fellow junior Andrew Hunt (Upper Black Eddy, Penn.) spun to the squad’s season best mark on the high bar with a score of 8.6. Sophomore James Prim (Hendersonville, NC) also had a team-season high on the rings with a mark of 8.75.

The College’s next action will come next weekend, as the team will travel to St. Paul, Minn., to compete against the University of Minnesota.
