Men’s Golf Fifth After First Day of Rice Intercollegiate

MISSOURI CITY, TEXAS - William and Mary’s men’s golf team opened the spring season yesterday showing no drop-off from its outstanding fall season, heading into the clubhouse in fifth place with 614 strokes, only eight behind the leader, Sam Houston State. Harrison Moore from the College of Charleston is on top of the individual standings at one-under through two rounds.

The Tribe’s Doug Hurson (Bethesda, Md.) is tied for fifth overall after rounds of 72-77, holding his position after each round despite adding five strokes on an extremely difficult par-72 course. Senior Ryan Price (Chantilly, Va.) continued his strong play this year, combining rounds of 75-77 to stand tied for 13th. Sophomore Brent Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) improved seven strokes between rounds to shoot 73 in the afternoon and improve to a tie for 15th. Senior captain Matt Brantingham (Richmond, Va.) paired rounds of 80 to stand in a tie for 46th, and senior Hunter Watts (Keswick, Va.) rounded out the first day effort with 172 strokes.
