Men’s Golf Finishes Eighth at Rice Intercollegiate

MISSOURI CITY, TEXAS - William and Mary’s men’s golf team finished the Rice Intercollegiate today in eighth place, a commendable effort to open the spring season. Sam Houston State won the 13-team event with a three-round total of 900 strokes. Southeastern Louisiana’s Aaron O’Callaghan, competing as an individual, won the titlist medal in a playoff over Harrison Moore from the College of Charleston after both recorded scores of 217 (+1).

Sophomore Doug Hurson (Bethesda, Md.) tied for the team’s low round of the day with 77 strokes, finishing the tournament tied for 12th overall at +10 (226 strokes). Senior Ryan Price (Chantilly, Va.) also shot 77 on Sunday, finishing three strokes back in a tie for 19th. Sophomore Brent Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) was three strokes behind Price, tied for 27th after shooting 79 in the final round. Senior captain Matt Brantingham (Richmond, Va.) finished his tournament with a third-straight 80, and classmate Hunter Watts (Keswick, Va.) improved a stroke between rounds to finish with a total of 257.

The Tribe will next take a trip to Ireland over the Spring Break, before hosting the W&M Invitational on March 26-27 at Kingsmill.
