Tribe Gymnasts Solid in Cat Classic Finals

Senior Padilla Sixth on Vault, Junior Waldman Ties for Fifth on Bars

Columbia, Mo. - Only two Tribe gymnasts advanced to the individual finals of the Callaway Bank Cat Classic at the University of Missouri, but senior Christina Padilla (Sterling, Va.) and junior Stevie Waldman (Downingtown, Pa.) each made the most of the opportunity Saturday night against a very strong field.

The top ten finishers from each event in the team portion of the competition Friday night ad-vanced to Saturday’s individual finals. W&M recorded a season-high total score of 187.700 Friday night, while the 17th-ranked and host Missouri Tigers claimed the team title with a season-high score of 196.075, followed by Eastern Michigan (191.775), Bowling Green (190.650) and the Tribe.

Waldman, a USAG All-American, posted her best effort of the season on bars with a 9.775 Friday night to advance to Saturday. In the finals, the junior tied for fifth place with another standout effort, recording a 9.750.

Padilla placed seventh on vault Friday with a 9.750, and the senior once again rose to the occa-sion, posting a 9.700 to place sixth on Saturday.

Missouri claimed three out of four event titles Saturday night. Adrianne Perry won both the vault and floor titles and Julie Abaray took home the bar title.
