Tribe Gymnastics Hosts Towson on Senior Night/ACS Night

Williamsburg - William and Mary women's gymnastics hosts Towson tonight at 7 p.m. at Kaplan Arena. Prior to the meet, the program will recognize its four seniors, Andrea Dochney, Janelle Greene, Christina Padilla and Jess Randall. Tonight's event has also been designated as American Cancer Society Night, as the team will have locations set up throughout the arena to accept donations to the American Cancer Society.

After a slow start to the season, the Tribe has steadily improved over the last four events. W&M scored a season-high total of 187.700 at the Cat Classic at Missouri on Feb. 23 and followed with another solid effort at Towson last weekend, placing second with a score of 187.625. Tonight’s opponent, Towson, used a season-high 194.550 to win the ECAC tri-meet, while the Tribe defeated JMU.

Highlighting the individual efforts for W&M were three event titles. Padilla scored a career-high 9.825 on bars to finish first, while Dochney and freshman Ali Medeiros shared the beam title with matching scores of 9.775. Dochney’s mark tied a career-high, while Medeiros’ score was a season and career-high.

Stevie Waldman was also impressive, as the junior was just shy of matching Padilla on bars with a second-place, season-best 9.800. She also boosted the beam total with a season-high 9.475 and recorded the team’s second-best mark on floor with a 9.425.

Sophomore Becca Bacharach continued her strong season with a 9.675 on beam. Bacharach has been one of the squad’s most consistent performers in the event, holding the team’s top regional qualifying score (RQS).

Junior Tricia Long is also putting together another solid campaign, holding the team’s top all-around RQS and floor RQS. Long scored a career-high 9.725 on bars at Towson.

Tonight’s meet begins a busy stretch for W&M, heading to the conference championship. The Tribe will compete two more times in the next seven days, before wrapping up the regular season at UNC on March 23.
