Women’s Golf Fourth After First Round of Bobcat Desert Classic

GOODYEAR, ARIZ - William and Mary's women's golf team continued its spring resurgence yesterday at the Bobcat Desert Classic, standing in fourth place in the 20-team event after the first day. Cal Poly holds the clubhouse lead at 301, four strokes ahead of the Tribe. The Mustang's Hannah Brabb and Oral Roberts' Christy Carter had the day's low rounds, as they each shot an even-par 72 on the 6,160-yard course.

Senior captain Melissa DePuy (Naples, Fla.) tied her collegiate-best round with a 2-over 74, and stands tied for third. Also shooting a collegiate-best was freshman Morgan Stepanek (Guilford, Conn.), tied for 12th after carding 76. Junior Erika Oldenkamp (Hinsdale, Ill.) is one stroke back, tied for 20th with a 77. Classmate Marissa Sprick (Windermere, Fla.) is tied for 27th with a round of 78, and freshman Brielle Paolini (Virginia Beach, Va.) is tied for 40th after shooting 79. It is the first time in school history that the entire team has shot in the 70's.

The Bobcat Desert Classic continues today with 18 holes, and will finish tomorrow with a third round.
